From its origins in 1961 as a small group of committed wildlife enthusiasts, the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) has grown into one of the world’s largest and most respected independent conservation organizations – supported by 5 million people and active in over 100 countries on five continents.

Opportunity

The WWF's focus has evolved from localized efforts in favour of single species and individual habitats ... to an ambitious strategy to preserve biodiversity and achieve sustainable development across the globe. WWF Switzerland rose to the challenge to encourage and support grassroots social enterprise projects related to biodiversity.

Solution

Chaordix worked with WWF Switzerland to create a branded crowdsourcing platform and program for community-of-interest engagement. A range of projects, from internal idea management, to invitation-only discussions, to open-call challenges have been implemented and managed on the same flexible community platform. This multilingual initiative was rolled out in French, German and English.

Impact

Ten unique challenges have been run to date on topics such as biodiversity. Participants submit detailed project proposals (including descriptions, impact statements, funding requirements, timelines, etc.) and the crowd community has the opportunity to discuss, debate, and vote on the proposals of their choice. To date, funding recipients have included projects for native plant revitalization, habitat inventories, and biodiversity training programs.
Chaordix has helped us to establish a community platform that is easy to use, intuitive, and configured to our needs. In addition, they have given us a lot of valuable advice as to how we can engage our crowd.”
